Scoping out the new Ipevo Skype
The new CDPU-06IP is the newest version of Ipevo’s best-selling USB handset for Skype. For those who mite not know current Internet trends Skype is a computer to computer phone, calls to other users of the service, and in some countries to free-of-charge numbers are free, while calls to other landlines and mobile phones can be made for a fee. This effectively allows one to replace their land line phone system with a free to minimal fee service.
Now that that is out of the way lets move onto the product which I had the pleasure to use. First off this is a phone that works on both PC and MAC which opens it up to a large market that seems neglected by the new growing Skype industry.
The first thing I noticed about the phone is extremely light weight with a stylish design looking like it was made to be placed next to your I-phone. A long connection cord allows the lean way around the computer so that the fear of accidentally dropping the call mid conversation isn’t really on your mind. Also this cord makes this phone considerably cheaper in comparison to the cordless ones currently on the market.
The sound quality is as clear as a bell from my experience with the product. I actually thought I was having a problem with the item at one point until I figured out my Internet was the actual source. It seemed that most of my problems with this product came from the computer it was on more then the product. Once my computer went into sleep mode it would not answer calls any more. This can be annoying but cannot be gotten around currently.
This does not stop this Skype phone from being a great looking, light weight, easily installed, crystal clear phone. Since most of the functions are controlled on the phone vie the new screen they placed onto the phone it makes a large leap into moving Skype into your hand and off of the computer. It allows a person to simply pick up the phone and operate it. If you are looking for a phone for your home Desktop or active calling from your laptop this works great but if you mainly use a laptop and want to replace your land line you might find this product disappointing.
